Katie contacted me asking about doing extended family photos while they were vacationing at the Beachwalk Resort in Michigan City last August. She was hoping to gift this to her mom for her birthday - such a wonderful gift!! What mom wouldn't want photos of her kids and grandkids all together while on vacation?! I know that is my ideal gift!!
Anyways, I met up with the whole family at their vacation home just before sunset and we headed down to the beach on golf carts. This resort is amazing and most of the houses come with golf carts, perfect for getting you through the community and down to the beach quickly! We parked our carts and walked down the boardwalk. Honestly, I could spend an entire hour session at the boardwalk, it is so darn beautiful and beachy! We knocked out the majority of our posed photo combinations there, so we could do more down on the sand or we could just play. Whatever we wanted!
From there, we walked down to the sand and took some photos in the beachgrass. I always love the beautiful beach grass that our beaches have here. It offers some great texture and a little color to your photos, and is just a nice little switch up from the photos down by the water.
While we were walking down, I heard giggles behind me and turned around to see Grandma & the youngest grandkid having a moment. Snapped a few photos of these two and they may be my favorite photos from the entire session. You can just feel their happiness through these photos!
Then, we headed for the water. Lake Michigan was showing off with the glowing sunset and it was seriously one of the most gorgeous evenings at the beach of all of 2021. Perfectly warm, beautiful colors in the sky, and the sweetest family with a killer wardrobe! But seriously, take notes if you're doing beach photos this year -- the neutral, light earth tones of their color scheme blended so wonderfully with our backdrop. The flowy dresses blew in the wind and danced along with them. So magical!
We spent the rest of the session playing in the sand, taking individual photos of each kiddo, racing down the beach, snuggling together for a few more large group photos, and dipping our toes in the water. This is what vacation photography is all about!
When we were all done, we headed back up the boardwalk and witnessed a magical sight! There was a family of deer roaming around in the grasses and eating. They weren't bothered by us, and we just stood there and watched them. I've seen a lot of deer in this area, so I always keep an eye out for them at dusk. They are so sweet and my clients always love seeing them as we head back home.
If you're looking for a place to vacation this summer, I'd highly recommend checking out Beachwalk Vacation Rentals in Michigan City, Indiana! It's a quaint little vacation community, with beautiful homes painted all different colors. You're steps from the beach and surrounded by great restaurants, blueberry picking, shopping, a zoo, ice cream shops, and more! It's a great little getaway for local midwest families (only about an hour and 15mins from downtown Chicago!), and a nice central location for families coming together!
