One of the most popular vacation spots in Indiana is Michigan City’s Beachwalk Resort. Every year, I photograph lots of families and extended families that have decided to stay at Beachwalk for their summer vacation.

The resort is a community of colorful homes right along the shore of Lake Michigan. It has its own lake, shuffleboard courts, an ice cream shop, a pool, and more! It’s such a cute spot for a vacation, and one of the best things about the resort is that the houses are huge and can fit large families so they can stay all together in the same spot. Most houses come with a golf cart, which makes getting to the beach super easy, so most of my clients opt to meet me and head down to the beach, but every now and then I have a family that wants to do photos around the resort featuring a pretty spot with nature in the background, on the boardwalk with the colorful houses in the back, or even at Lake Kai on it’s little beach.

When Christina contacted me looking for a photographer to capture her extended family all together on their summer vacation, I was so excited to head back to Beachwalk! On their session day, we met at their house and walked across the street and down to the beach. They chose a mid-morning time slot, which can be pretty bright and sunny (I usually opt for closer to sunrise if possible), but it worked best for their family so they were able to get all of the kiddos ready before the session so we made the best of it and got some really gorgeous shots of the group!

We started off with photos up in the beach grass first, and then headed down to the water. I usually do this at this location and also at New Buffalo because once you get little kids down to the water, they don’t want to come back out, and you also run the risk of them getting their photo outfit wet! This plan worked out perfectly, and we got such beautiful photos up in the grass and then even more down by the water! Once we got all of the photos that we wanted where everyone was posed and looking at the camera, and it was time to play! Lots of fun was had running, throwing kids in the air, walking in the water, swinging kids around, splashing in the waves, and throwing rocks in Lake Michigan... and we got some really great candid shots doing this!
